Foot and mouth disease outbreak in Thailand, so Cambodians should be careful

Hand, foot, and mouth disease has been so prevalent in Thailand that the Thai government has issued a public health advisory warning parents in the country to be careful. So we hope that the workers who have recently returned from Thailand will be careful.

According to the Nation, this disease is a rapidly spreading infectious disease. Among young children during the rainy season, which is characterized by cold and wet weather conditions, the Ministry of Public Health has found a significant increase.

At this time, the local Ministry of Health has emphasized and encouraged parents to ensure proper hygiene and health checks for their children, especially children, who are most vulnerable.

This disease is a type of disease that can be transmitted and occur in people of all ages, but adults are a little rare. Statistics show that between January 1 and June 25, 2025, Thailand recorded more than 20,000 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, of which nearly 15,000 were in children aged 0 to 4, 4.6 million were in children aged 5 to 9, and more than 500 were in children aged 10 to 14.

The outbreak comes at a time when Cambodia and Thailand are experiencing border tensions, and the government has called on workers to and workers who are working in Thailand return to their homeland.

In such a situation, we should pay attention to their health and, even if they are not sick, we should also pay attention to educating or informing them to promote caution, especially on hygiene issues before meeting their children or nephews or small children in their home communities.

Dear workers, if you have symptoms of fever, sores, and rashes on your palms, soles, and buttocks, be extra careful about hygiene and avoid being close to children for a while. You are a full-grown person, but for babies or small children, they can be dangerous. This disease is caused by several viruses, including coxsackieviruses and Enterovirus 71 (EV71).

This disease can resolve on its own, but for children it is very dangerous and can develop into meningitis and sometimes cause serious complications such as nerve, heart, brain, and respiratory problems that can lead to death.

This virus can cause symptoms after 3 to 7 days of infection, and the first symptoms It is a disease that causes blisters on the hands, feet, and inside the mouth, fever, fatigue, sore throat, and loss of appetite. You should know that this disease can be transmitted from one person to another through direct contact with respiratory fluids such as saliva, phlegm, and mucus from the blisters, sores, and throat of the patient.

In short, we hope that the doctors and officials who are waiting to receive the Cambodian people back will help inform them about the disease of hand, foot, and mouth disease and remind them to be careful when entering their homes. Please practice good hygiene by washing your hands frequently with soap and water before handling food and avoid sharing personal items such as glasses, cups, spoons, and towels with children and others.
