The border clash on the morning of May 28, 2025 could have easily eased tensions and returned the situation to normalcy if it had not been for the intervention of ultra-nationalist politicians in both Cambodia and Thailand.
After this incident broke out, anti-Cambodian politicians abroad tried to use the situation to shake up the political situation in the country through messages and comments that were far from the truth on social media. But because the domestic opposition is weak, this situation has not yet been able to change the situation, and on the other hand, citizens may get used to the same political messages.
In Thailand, social media has also been used to defuse the situation, to the point that the Thai government yesterday blocked some Internet IPs to prevent the situation from getting worse.

Up until now, the situation at the border between the two countries, especially the areas where there have been clashes, is still in a state of alert and caution. The armed forces of the Cambodian and Thai sides continue to be on alert, although the border situation and the movement of goods between people and people are still operating normally. On May 31, 2025, some Thai media reported that the Thai side closed 16 border crossings with Cambodia, but later there was a series of confirmations from both the Cambodian and Thai sides that everything was still the same and there was no closure.
After such reports, authorities in the border provinces reported in succession that the border situation was still the same and that the exchange of goods and economic and trade links, the flow of people and tourists were still operating normally.
In general, activities along the Cambodian-Thai border, which stretches from Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pailin, Pursat, and Koh Kong, have remained normal as of the morning of June 1, 2025.
Government spokesman Jirayu Huangsap was quoted by Thai media as saying that the Thai Prime Minister has been and is closely monitoring the situation at the border.
In particular, Thaksin Shinawatra who is known to be the influential person behind the current Thai government was quoted by the Nation as saying that the Thai government also does not want a border problem. He claimed that the situation would be resolved through dialogue between senior officials from both sides. Thaksin explained that the conflict arose from minor clashes among soldiers stationed in the disputed area due to unclear demarcation.
He added that the problem arose where the border was unclear and unmarked. He noted that formal border demarcations around the world often take centuries to complete, and that the areas in dispute are mostly wilderness. He also said that he wants the soldiers in the region to joke around with each other instead of fighting.
In short, if there is no interference from ultra-nationalist politicians and both sides adopt a positive and peaceful stance based on negotiations based on mutual interests, the situation will soon return to normal.
