Cambodia’s three air transport sectors, airports, are known to have a total of nearly 30,000 flights in the first five months of 2025. According to a report from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, in the past five months, there have been a total of 27,670 flights in and out of Cambodia, an increase of approximately 14 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Separately, cargo transportation is estimated to be nearly 30,000 tons, an increase of about 5 percent.
This is a positive achievement for the air transportation sector, which operates at Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanoukville International Airport. However, analysts said that for the time being, the transportation sector may face some challenges.
The analyst said that the air war between Iran and Israel for the past 13 days, although not directly affecting Cambodia, is also indirectly because many flights connecting to the Middle East have been disrupted.
In fact, according to reports by foreign media, so far Many airlines such as Singapore Airlines, British Airways, and Korean Air, which fly to Dubai, Doha, and Riyadh, have all suspended flights. In addition, there are many other airlines, and the United States alone launched an attack on Iran, which affected a total of about 3,000 flights.
He claimed that although foreign tourists from the Middle East come to Cambodia, it is very limited, but nevertheless, the disruption of flights through this region will definitely affect the overall air transport sector, so Cambodia will also be affected.
So far, the airspace that does not have safety standards for air transport is almost the entire Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Israel, and Iran itself, all of which are affected.
In addition to the crisis in the region, the analyst continued that the border issue between Cambodia and Thailand will also It also affects some air transport services, as Thailand remains a gateway for Cambodia’s flights, even though the Open Horizon policy has connected Cambodia to a wider range of destinations.
