Imports of family cars have grown rapidly in the first half of 2025, with this growth partly due to the increase in car imports from China.
So far, in addition to many domestically assembled car models, Cambodia has continued to import more cars from abroad at a higher than expected growth rate, even as the economic situation remains uncertain.
Import statistics received from the Ministry of Commerce show that in the first half of 2025, Cambodia imported family cars worth a total of more than $487 million, with an increase of nearly 67 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
In addition to family cars, imports of commercial vehicles such as trucks were worth nearly $64 million, down nearly 12 percent, while imports of buses and vans (12-seaters) It is about $29 million, down more than half a percent.
In particular, motorcycle imports also increased during the same period, with imports totaling more than $214 million, an increase of more than 20 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
A person in the automotive industry, who asked not to be named, said that this increase could be related to the import of cars from the Chinese market. He claimed that The Chinese car market in Cambodia is currently expanding, and if China continues to maintain the quality of its cars and release attractive, modern-looking models while keeping prices low, the popularity of Chinese cars in Cambodia will increase further.
