South Korean president arrested

Yoon Sok-yul became the first South Korean president to be arrested on Wednesday. Yun, 64, is being investigated on charges of sedition over the failed martial law proclamation on December 3 that plunged the country into chaos.

He has also been impeached and suspended by parliament, but he will be removed from office if the Constitutional Court upholds the charges.

Yun’s surprise arrest on Wednesday, however, ended a weeks-long standoff between investigators and his presidential protection team.
