Cambodian pepper exports in 2024 grew by more than 131 percent compared to 2023, and this year may continue to grow further, while there are reports that global pepper output in 2025 may decrease, causing pepper prices to rise on the world market.

Export statistics from the General Department of Customs and Excise show that throughout 2024, Cambodia exported pepper to international markets worth a total of $35.27 million, an increase of more than 131 percent compared to exports in 2023, when exports were worth only $15.23 million.

According to the statistics received, the amount of pepper products that Cambodia can export is not specified. So far, the Cambodian pepper market is still very small compared to neighboring countries, especially Vietnam, even though Cambodia has potential in pepper cultivation.
Cambodian pepper has a broad market, with only Kampot pepper being exported to overseas markets such as Korea, China, Japan, Europe, and the United States. However, most of the pepper products in other provinces such as Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, and the eastern provinces are mostly exported to Vietnam.
Regarding the pepper market In 2025, according to a report by Vietnam News, global pepper exports will reach $5.5 billion annually, with the largest exporters being Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia, Burkina Faso, etc.

Global pepper production in 2025 is estimated by the International Pepper Community to fall by 4%, or 22,000 tons, due to a decline in pepper production in the world’s largest export markets, Vietnam and Brazil.
The news did not specify how much pepper production in the two countries would fall, but only that in 2024 Vietnam, the world’s largest pepper exporter, exported 250,000 tons of pepper, down 5.1 percent from 2023.

The same source said that the volume of Vietnamese pepper exports has decreased, but this decrease has increased the value of exports. Today, Vietnam’s largest pepper export market is the United States, with a total volume of 72,000 tons, equivalent to about 29 percent of the export market to other countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Germany, the Netherlands and India.
Throughout 2024, Vietnam exported pepper to the international market worth $1.3 billion, an increase of 45.4 percent. If in 2025, if Vietnam’s pepper output continues to decline as expected, the price of pepper will be even better.
Therefore, pepper farmers in Cambodia will be able to swallow their saliva because of the increase in pepper prices. Hopefully, Cambodia will produce more pepper and export more for the benefit of the nation and the people.
