BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Cambodia — February 27, 2026
Provincial production and veterinary officials in Banteay Meanchey conducted inspections at three poultry slaughter markets in Serei Saophoan city on February 27, aiming to strengthen hygiene standards and improve food safety for consumers.
According to Mr. Huy Touch, head of the Provincial Office of Production and Veterinary Services, inspections were carried out at three markets: Huoy Leng Market, Teuk Thla Market, and Serei Saophoan Market. Approximately seven slaughter locations were reviewed, involving 23 poultry vendors.

Officials advised vendors to maintain proper sanitation standards at their selling areas to ensure food safety and create a healthier environment for customers. Authorities also encouraged fair pricing practices that benefit both buyers and sellers, contributing to a more stable local market.
Cambodia has periodically strengthened veterinary monitoring efforts amid regional concerns over avian influenza outbreaks in Southeast Asia, according to reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

Residents expressed appreciation for the veterinary officers’ efforts, noting that regular inspections of beef, buffalo, chicken, duck, and other livestock products help ensure product quality and protect public health.
Food safety inspections form part of broader efforts to improve market standards across Cambodia. Authorities have increasingly emphasized sanitation, traceability, and disease prevention in livestock trading.

Local citizens also urged authorities to conduct inspections more frequently to support domestic livestock farmers, stabilize market prices, and prevent illegal livestock imports from neighboring countries. A measure seen as important for controlling the spread of animal diseases and safeguarding public health.
